Throughout the program, the featured composers on this program were inspired by the writings of poets and history’s unexpected storytellers.

Debussy and Vaughn Williams both took direct inspiration from poetic works of their time, while Gorecki inspirations include a message from a Gestapo prisoner.
Gorecki's music is filled with passages expressing the mourning of various afflicted individuals including a message written on the wall of a Gestapo cell during World War II, and a Silesian folk song of a mother searching for her son killed by the Germans in the Silesian uprisings.

He sets this text in the Soprano solo - words that were almost lost.
Our featured composers' works masterfully share the stories of their muses, including thier very own stories.

From Vaughan Williams arrest at the inception of his work to Levinson's migration from Russia and the resurfacing of Gorecki's groundbreaking work years after its premiere, the music of these composers share a theme of resilence - an inspiration for the listeners to take with them.
