Charles Schuchat

Charles Schuchat, tuba, has performed and recorded with the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and Israel Philharmonic. In addition to being principal tuba (and player’s committee chair) with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Charles is a member of Tower Brass. Charles is also principal tuba with the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra, and a member of the award-winning Asbury Brass Quintet.

Mr. Schuchat has participated in numerous music festivals, including the Spoleto Festival, Ravinia Festival, Brevard, Grant Park, Tanglewood Music Festival , Santa Fe Opera, and the Peninsula Music Festival. While at Tanglewood, he received the CD Jackson Award for Achievement. During the 1997-98 season, he served as principal tuba for the Israel Philharmonic and is currently a faculty member at both Northern Illinois University and the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University, where he is head of the Brass Department.

Mr. Schuchat is a native of Washington, DC. He is a graduate of Northwestern University where he studied with Arnold Jacobs.
